As the air grows crisp and the leaves start to fall, many of us enter a season of reflection, cozying up with a hot cup of tea and contemplating the year gone by. Fall is a transitional period—nature’s way of preparing us for a new season and, perhaps, a new beginning. It’s the perfect time to pause and ponder our well-being, holistically speaking. Are we aware of our bodies, our minds, and the crucial interplay between the two? In today’s post, we’re not just talking about self-awareness; we’re talking about empowered awareness, a level-up that can radically transform your life.
Why Awareness Isn’t One-Dimensional
Have you ever found yourself tirelessly working out, yet feeling disconnected mentally? Or maybe you’ve mastered mindfulness but still struggle with back pain, or stress-induced ailments. These common scenarios underline the fact that awareness isn’t a one-trick pony; it’s a dual act.
Physical Awareness: The Unsung Hero
For many purpose-driven women in their 30s, the idea of body awareness conjures images of strenuous workouts or endless yoga classes. While these activities contribute to physical well-being, body awareness transcends that. It’s about understanding your body’s cues: recognizing when you’re stressed, detecting that nagging shoulder pain before it gets worse, and doing something about it.
I recall a client who was perpetually tired but attributed it merely to her busy lifestyle. As we talked about her day to day, we found that just “being busy” was taking more of a toll on her nervous system. She was out of balance and recognizing this, combined with Manual Lymphatic Drainage, helped her realize that her constant fatigue was her body signaling an overloaded lymphatic system.
Action Tip: Keep a body journal for a week. Log any aches, pains, or anomalies, however insignificant they seem at the time. You’ll be surprised at the patterns that may emerge. your physical pains might be from emotional distress and vise versa.
The Mindfulness Spectrum: From Stress to Serenity
In our tech-saturated, always-on-the-move lifestyles, mental awareness often takes a backseat. It’s not just about meditation or mindfulness; it’s about grasping the full range of your mental state—from stress to serenity—and understanding how this impacts your physical self.
A close friend felt overwhelmed and “stuck in a rut.” By employing Cranio-sacral Therapy alongside mindful practices, she found a mental peace that she never knew existed. Her mind-body connection strengthened, her stress-induced headaches disappeared, and she felt more in control of her life.
Action Tip: Dedicate 5 minutes every day to check in mentally. Are you stressed, anxious, or calm? Acknowledge your feelings without judgment and consider their physical manifestations.
The Power of Symbiosis: When Body and Mind Align
What happens when we put the same energy into understanding both our physical and mental selves? The results can be transformative. The empowerment you experience when you’re in tune with both your body and mind is like adding rocket fuel to your aspirations.
I helped a client who felt physically strong but mentally drained. We approached her wellness with an emphasis on Corrective Exercise with the Core & Beyond Course, and targeted meditations. Not only did her back pain vanish, but she also reported a significant uptick in her mental clarity.
Action Tip: Aim to incorporate activities into your routine that engage both your body and mind, such as Tai Chi, dance, or even just a walk in nature while listening to an enlightening podcast or binaural beats, like I feature in the meditations I create and curate.
So… what I am trying to say is…
As we settle into the tranquility of fall, it’s time to harvest the seeds of body and mind awareness we’ve sown throughout the year. With empowered awareness, you’re not just existing; you’re thriving. You’re not merely surviving; you’re living a vibrant life.
